Summary: | The characteristics of nanoscale magnetic-ordered particles, synthesized by different technologies, were determined by the methods of electron transmission microscopy, nuclear gamma resonance spectroscopy and magnetometry. The synthesis conditions in used technologies were close to the conditions that occur at magnetic biominerals formation in the living organisms. The factors that are most considerably affect the phase composition and magnetic characteristics of synthesized nanoparticles were determined. On the background of the obtained results, the possible means of creation of synthetic analogues of biogenic magnetic-ordered particles, localized in brain tissues, were analyzed.

007 Synthetic analogues of biogenic magnetite: synthesis and characterization of magnetite nanoparticles |
Authors: | N. O. Dudchenko.
Summary: | Biogenic magnetite serve for a wide range of biological functions, including the orientation of animals in the space and also play an important role in the brain functioning. We describe the synthesis and characterization of magnetite nanoparticles that are the synthetic analogues of biogenic magnetite. Magnetite nanoparticles were prepared via co-precipitation of iron (II) and iron (III) with sodium hydroxide in aqueous solution at high temperature (80 8C). To avoid the oxidation of the magnetite surface, further covering of the magnetite nanoparticles with (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane was performed. The obtained magnetite nanoparticles had a comparatively high magnetization (45 A N m2/kg) and crystallinity. The average diameter of synthesized magnetite nanoparticles was around 14 nm. We the characteristics of the synthesized magnetite nanoparticles (size, phase composition, magnetic properties) are similar to biogenic magnetite.

Summary: | Preparation technology of magnetic threads made of magnetite nanoparticles in agarose gel by means of magnetic field was developed. Samples of magnetic threads and «unordered» samples were created in the range of nanomagnetite concentrations 0,5 - 0,0025 mg/ml. It was shown by means of optical microscopy, that in the samples of magnetic threads the length of thread considerably exceeds its width while the aggregates of nanoparticles of less size appear in «unordered» samples. It was shown by means of FMR, that samples of magnetic threads are anisotropic. We have register narrow enough FMR spectra by orientation of magnetic threads parallel to the spectrometer magnetic field, while the orientation of magnetic threads perpendicular to the spectrometer magnetic field leads to strong broadening of the spectra. The form and position of spectra of magnetic threads oriented perpendicular to the spectrometer magnetic field are similar to the form and position of spectra of «unordered» samples. The maximum of absorption line of the spectra of magnetic threads lies in low fields, whereas maximum of absorption line of the spectra of «unordered» samples lies in higher fields.
