Authors: | Sobol' O.V., Andreev A.A., Grigoriev S.N., Volosova M.A., Stolbovoy V.A., Serdyuk I.V., Antonenkova G.V.
Summary: | The influence of condition of vacuum-arc multi-layer TiN/Ti coatings on their phase composition, structure, stress state and mechanical properties has been studied. The regularities of the phase composition, structural state of stress, hardness with dependence on the magnitude of the negative bias applied to the substrate during the deposition and the thickness of the Ti and TiN layers in a multilayer coating were obtained. The analysis of the causes of observed changes, based on the mechanism of formation of surface layers of vacuum-arc coatings in the condition of implantation processes stimulated by applying a negative bias to the substrate was held.

065 Effect of Preparation Conditions in the Pressure Range of Atmospheric Nitrogen (2...50) 10-4 Torr on the Structural and Phase State of the Vacuum-Arc Coatings of Mo-N |
Authors: | O.V. Sobol’, A.A. Andreev, V.A. Stolbovoy, V.E. Fil’chikov, S.N. Grigoriev, M.V. Volosova
Summary: | This work deals with the impact of the reactive atmosphere (N2) pressure and bias potential values on
the phase-structural state of the coatings being formed. It has been found that at a low bias potential
Ub = (0 … -40) V, and with pressure increase from 2*10-4 up to 5*10-3 Torr, phase formation takes place in the following sequence: supersaturated solid solution of nitrogen in the bcc lattice of Mo (Mo(N)) - Мо2N phases with the NaCl-type lattice and with different degrees of octahedral interstitial site
occupation with nitrogen. At highest Ub (with a strong radiation factor effect) values ranging between -150 V and -200 V and with pressure increase, the composition changes.

Summary: | The effect of irradiation with ions Ar+ (energy of 1 and 1.8 MeV) and He+ (energy of 0.6 MeV) on the structure, microhardness and elastic modulus of the vacuum-arc nitride coatings. It is shown that the level of exposure to radiation vacuum-arc nitride coatings can be divided into 3 classes: 1) “the most structure persistent” – significant changes occur only on the substructure level (as an example – multi-element system Ti-Zr-V-Hf-Nb-Ta-N); 2) “the medium resistance “ – significant changes occur in the macro stress-strained state (as an example – the system Ti-N); 3) “structural variable” – significant changes in the macro-level and phase composition (as an example – the system Mo-N).

Summary: | At the nanometer scale multilayer nanostructured coatings show special properties due to the depositions conditions. This paper presents results of TiN/MoN nanocomposites obtaining and their research. Multilayer coatings based on TiN/MoN were deposited using vacuum arc evaporation cathode method (C-PVD). Total thickness range of obtained coatings was 2, 10, 20 and 40 nm. We used vacuum-arc device “Bulat-6” for coatings deposition. Structure and properties of multilayer coatings were analyzed using XRD (Bruker D-8 Advance) in Cu-Kα radiation, high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM system) with diffraction CFEI EO Techai F200, SEM with EDX (JEOL-7001F). Scratch tests were carried out using Rockwell-C diamond indenter (CSM Revetest Instruments) with a tip radius of 200 μm. Besides this, ball-on-plate sliding test on UMT-3MT tribometer (CETR, USA) was used for additional investigation of friction and wear. This research allowed to reveal structural and properties depending on deposition conditions of TiN/MoN multilayer coatings. The nanocomposite hardness value increases when monolayer thickness decreases. This also reduced nanograins size. Measurement of the friction coefficient demonstrates smaller values for multilayer system in comparison with TiN or MoN nanostructured coatings. Formation of a (Ti, Mo)N solid solution and nanocrystals growing were observed during annealing.
