The current status of fabrication of lamellar compositions, including bimetals, is described, as well as methods for their production.

The principles of the theory of solid-phase joining of dissimilar metals are briefly presented. Physico-chemical processes are considered which occur in the zone of materials joining for production of bimetals by hot and cold roll and explosion welding.

Analysis has been performed of the diffusion processes on the interface in dissimilar bimetals (steel + aluminium, steel + titanium, etc.), and of the structure and properties of welded joints made using bimetal inserts.

Results of studies and the technologies developed for production of combined (bimetal) joints by explosion welding with subsequent arc welding are described.
