Basic scientific directions

Investigation of wave processes generated by atmospheric disturbances in the Black Sea using the method of mathematical simulation. Determination of wave process effect on spreading of surface and bottom pollutions.
Reconstruction of climatic fields of temperature, salinity and currents with high spatial discontinuity on the basis of 3-D nonlinear hydrodynamical model.

Results

Determination of deviations of sea level, values and directions of wave currents in the Black Sea while passing of cyclones. Estimations of displacement, penetration depth and dissipation time of surface pollutions. Space distribution of bottom sediments stirred up by a cyclone.

Level field (m) and velocity field (m/s) on the north-western shelf of the Black Sea while passing of a cyclone

Parameters of large-scale circulation of the Black Sea waters and its mesoscale characteristics in near-coastal areas of the sea. Variability of hydrophysical fields in the zones of intensive energy exchange. Behavior and spatial structure of currents, processes of formation, development and dissipation of the vortexes with different signs of vorticity.
