Established on October 5, 1992.
Principal research areas: hardware and software tools of information technologies in various industries and automated systems for information treatment and control in various spheres (science, economy, environment protection etc.).
Several generations of Rada automated dataware systems for deputies of all state power levels have been developed; they are intended for the support of decision-making of government bodies (Rada-1, Rada-2, Rada-3). An automated system for situational control has been produced and implemented in the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. Theoretical principles, methods and technologies of module-oriented control for complex industrial systems have been worked out. On their basis, unique intelligent systems to control new-generation facilities for electron-beam welding (KL-115, KL-118, KL-117) have been developed and implemented. Mathematical models and programs are being developed to determine the anthropogenic impact on the environment. RODOS hydrological module for the European System of Decision-Making Support has been produced, to be used for off-facility protective measures in case of radiation accidents. The module has been implemented in all European countries. A GSM/CDMA protection system for mobile phones equipped with Blue Tooth module has been worked out. Advanced methods have been developed to recognize ultrasonic location images in car-passenger safety systems and recognize chemical images, using multimodule neuronets, alongside with NeuroLand series of domestic general-purpose neurocomputers. Institutes specialists have developed and tested in several countries a new ideology and technology of parallel data processing and those of distributed modelling and control in open dynamic systems, which are based on effective spatial interpretation of WAVE-UP special high-level language. Oncotest WM-01 telemedical information technology for screening cancer diseases has been produced. New methods, algorithms and programs for digital processing of radar signals have been developed and implemented at Ukrainian radar stations. Novel microprocessor automation means and systems, e.g. Elecon automatic control system, have been produced for controlling municipal engineering facilities; they save 15-40% of power. The institute hosts UKRSERTCOMPUTER Center for certification of technologies, computer and automation hardware, which has been accredited in compliance with the European standards and obtained the appropriate certificate; it has also been accredited within SIC international certification system.
In 1960 the Pilot Production Department was organized within the Computing Center of AS of UkrSSR); in 1963 on its basis the Special Design Bureau of Mathematical Machines and Systems was set up within V. M. Glushkov Institute of Cybernetics; in 1992 that was reorganized into the NAS Institute of Problems of Mathematical Machines and Systems. In 1963-1982 the Institute was headed by Yu. T. Mitulinskiy, in 1982-1983 by T. P. Maryanovich, in 1983-1992 by A. O. Morozov, who founded the Institute in 1992 and since then has been its unchallenged leader.
