The Centre of Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer is a specialized NAS institution conducting research in copyright and patent law, technology transfer, and investments.
The Centre co-ordinates activities of 86 intellectual property departments of the institutes, design institutions and pilot plants within the National Academy of Sciences and provides legal and patent services to institutes, firms, investors, industrial and technological enterprises, authors and scientists.
It carries out research into law regulation of the international and domectic technology transfer; Internet activities, protection of computer software and data bases; WTO and WIPO regulation of intellectual property protection; EU intelectual property law.
Lawyers of the Centre provide advisory support, take part in preparing draft laws and regulations, including Civil Code of Ukraine, Copyright Law of Ukraine, collaborate with the Committees of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ministry of Justice, State Department of Intellectual Property and Copyright Agency under the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and other government bodies.
The Centre provides information on international research programs; coordinates activities of the National Contact Points network towards supporting Ukrainian scientists’ participation in EU research programs. Besides, the Centre exercises functions of the Secretariate of Consultative Council on issues of intellectual property protection and technology transfer of the International Association of Academies of Sciences of CIS countries.
The Centre possess significant experience in collaboration with foreign and international organizations on implementing results of scientific research and:
- provides legal expertise of contracts, assists in preparing draft agreements; assists in courts and arbitration decision execution; prepares documents and carries out registration of corporate businesses, including venture small businesses and joint ventures;
- prepares drafts of technology-transfer and licensing agreements on the use of intellectual property; provides advisory services on investments projects;
- provides copyright protection (books, computer programs, data bases, film and video productions, audio recordings); provides state registration of copyrights, software and data base rights;
- provides patent services, patenting of trademarks and inventions.
The Centre is an evaluating organization certified by the State Property Fund of Ukraine with considerable experience in evaluation of the intellectual property, businesses, investments of foreign firms into enterprises, which is necessary under Ukrainian law.
