Established on February 26, 1997.
Principal study areas of the Institue are:
- scientific fundamentals of prognostication concerning the advancement of power industry and consumption; systems analysis and optimization of power sector structure, of branch and regional systems of power industry and energy balances; development of information and software tools for prognostication;
- research into structural development of Ukrainian power sector, key trends in the development of its fuel-and-power complex, taking into account environmental requirements, tasks of forming fuel-and-power balances and optimizing import and export volumes of fuel and energy resources;
- systems analysis and prognostication of R&D progress in power sector, studies into the principal ways of improving energy efficiency and energy saving, prognostication and implementation of energy-saving potential;
- scientific principles of power sector management in market economy; forming the normative-and-legal framework and economic environment for functioning and advancement of power sector in Ukraine.
Major achievements and developments:
- Methodological approaches to and models for long-term prognoses of the development of fuel-and-power complex and its branch systems have been developed and implemented in PYRAMIDA software-and-information tool.
- The Institute was the principal development contractor (2001–2003) and leading organization (2004–2006) in the development of Energy strategy of Ukraine for the period out to 2030.
- The Integrated state program of energy saving in Ukraine has been developed.
- The first Ukraine’s communication on climate change has been drafted.
