Principal lines of Institute’s activities are:
- development of novel high-efficiency and environment-friendly technologies for burning and gasification of domestic coal, with a view to its utilization in the power industry of Ukraine;
- heat- and electro-physical studies towards improving the efficiency of heat-power conversion into electrical power;
- development and implementation of state-of-the-art methods for diagnostics and prevention of harmful emissions from power plants into the environment.
The following science schools have originated at the Institute:
‘New technologies of solid-fuel thermal conversion’ (NAS Acad. Yu. P. Korchevoy, NAS Corr. Member O. Yu. Maistrenko);
‘Studies of physico-chemical processes in low-temperature plasma and plasma of combustion products’ (NAS Acad. Yu. P. Korchevoy).
The Institute offers for implementation:
- Contractor design of the demonstration plant of 10 MW heat capacity for gas- and mazout-free burning and gasification of high-ash coal (of 50% ash content) under pressure and with coal conversion level up to 99%, sulfur and nitric oxides emissions below 100 mg/nm3.
- Contractor design of KШ 10-13 boiler with the steam capacity of 10 t per hour, intended for burning high-ash coal in low-temperature boiling bed.
- Gas-generator of circulating boiling bed with steam-air blast and capacity of 500 kg per hour for coal gasification (20-60% of ash). Gasification products could be used to replace natural gas in power and metallurgy industries. The estimated coal-conversion level is 97%, sulfur and nitric oxides emissions – below 200 mg/nm3.
- Coal igniter of spouted bed for powerful burners of steam generators. It is to be used for igniting low-reacting high-ash coal without gas and masout in burners of 50 MW capacity. It can also be used to ignite anthracite fines and lean coal with ash content of 30-40%.
- System of electrode precharge before electrostatic filters and control unit for preliminary shaking off of TPP electrostatic filter electrodes. The system provides a higher efficiency of dust cleaning in electrostatic filters due to dust particles charging and alternating shaking off of the electrodes of each field in different time periods.
- Burner unit with thermo-chemical fuel preparation for low-reactive high-ash coal combustion.
