Founded on June 15, 1994.
Its principal lines of research are:
- optical security technologies;
- laser physics;
- holography.
Major research results and developments:
- The theory of dynamic holographic gratings with non-local response has been developed.
- With methods of dynamic and polarizing holography, the process of bacteriorhodopsin phototransformation in gelatine films has been studied and prospects of using such films for optical information processing in real time have been shown.
- A new method of solving wave equation has been developed for the analysis of diffraction on apertures.
- A new method of image recognition in hybrid optical-digital correlation systems has been proposed, allowing one to unify the form of correlation signals and to formalize the procedure of choosing recognition characters for objects of arbitrary classes.
- An integral study of the topological structure of optical field of multimode laser generation under homogeneous biharmonic injection has been done and realization conditions for nondegenerated four-wave interaction of waves of injection and generation, topological structure of laser radiation transformation from optical vortex to optical domain walls have been determined.
- On the initiative and with the participation of NAS International Center ‘The Institute of Applied Optics’, the ‘Holography’ specialized facility was set up in 2000, which permitted the production of holographic security elements to be started.
- An important element of Center’s activities is increasing the bank of high-quality holograms of unique works of art and historical relics from Ukrainian museums and popularizing them abroad.
- Fiber-optic temperature sensors have been developed and tested in Ukrainian mines.
- Manufacturing of laser systems for engraving and marking has been organized.
