Established on May 21, 1995.
Its principal activities are aimed at:
- studying the systemic structure of the natural language;
- forming and managing a fundamental archive of the Ukrainian and other languages, and linguistic databases;
- developing and producing information-language systems (conventional and digital dictionaries, manuals, educational and expert systems, systems of automated natural-language processing);
- coordinating research in computational and cognitive linguistics and lexicography in Ukraine; establishing relations with leading foreign organizations in those areas;
- maintaining and ensuring the functioning of the ‘National dictionary base of the Ukrainian Lingua-Information Fund’, that has the National Asset status.
Major achievements and developments of the Ukrainian Lingua-Information Fund are:
- Theoretical linguistic and systems-engineering principles of the ‘National dictionary base’ have been developed with the purpose of creating high-performance network environment for producing the national language resource of Ukraine.
- Models of intellectual processing of natural-language texts have been developed. Relying on them, the algorithmic base of intellectual processing of natural-language objects is being constructed.
- Linguistic and systems-engineering principles of developing and producing on-line Ukrainian lexicographical systems, including virtual systems of professional interaction in the field of linguistics (lexicography, in particular), have been studied.
