Established by NAS Presidium Resolution №268 of 7 October 1992. Its name was changed to ‘The Institute of European Research’ by NAS Presidium Resolution №156 of 30 May 2001.
The principal lines of Institute’s research are:
- studying issues of national-and-cultural development and socio-political and cultural relations of Ukraine with countries of Europe and European institutions, analyzing and forecasting the progress of Ukrainian-European relations;
- studying and publishing historical and politological heritage of the representatives of Ukrainian statehood school.
The Institute of European Research is a leading institution in Ukrainian socio-humanitarian studies and one of the principal scholarly, methodological and coordinating centers of research into state-building processes in Ukraine; it also holds a respectable position among the leading research centers of history and political science.
Since 1992 the Institute has been headed by professor Jaroslaw Pelensky, a prominent scholar, well known both in Ukraine and abroad, a foreign NAS member.
