The Center, established in 1991 (before that – the Chair of Philosophy organized in 1954), is a state research and educational institution with the rights of a legal entity, a state higher educational institution of the IV-th level of accreditation. The methodological guidance of the Center is provided by the NAS Department of History, Philosophy and Law.
The main tasks of the Center are:
- the methodological support of the study of philosophy by post-graduates and applicants of NAS institutions, according to the qualifying examination program;
- holding entrance philosophy exams for the post-graduate courses and holding candidate (qualifying) philosophy exams;
- training high-qualification personnel in the field of philosophic disciplines through the post-graduate and doctoral courses;
- conducting research;
- preparing monographs and manuals; lecturing and holding seminars on the philosophy of science and history of science.
Annually more than 700 post-graduates and applicants, citizens of Ukraine and other countries, do a course of philosophy at the Center.
The structural branches of the Center are: the Chair of Philosophy, the Chair of the Philosophy of Science and Culturology, Chairs of Philosophy under NAS regional science centres (in Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Lviv, Odesa, Kharkiv, consultation centres in Sevastopol and Mykolayiv).
The laboratory of post-non-classical methodologies works within the Center, collections of scholarly works are published, issues of humanitarian expert assessment investigated.
