Founded on November 13, 1991.
Principal research lines:
- elaborating and substantiating the methodology of choosing sustainable develoment strategy for the regions of Ukraine under industrial impact;
- developing scientific fundamentals of regional ecomonitoring system;
- assessing and prognosing environmental impacts of employing industrial mining technologies and mine placement schemes.
Main achievements and developments:
- The Concept of Ukraine transition to sustainable development has been prepared, coordinated with leading research institution and referred to NAS Presidium.
- The Institute produced a draft state program ‘Sustainable development of the region of uranium ore mining and primary procession’. It was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine as a program.
- A prototype regional system of complex ecomonitoring was developed. It was used as the basis for Dnipropetrovsk oblast (‘Pridniprovya’ system of ecological monitoring) and city ecomonitoring systems, and for preparing a draft of ecological monitoring system for the city of Zhovti Vody.
- Environmental maps of Dnipropetrovsk city and oblast were prepared with the use of Institute’s own proprietary techniques and published.

Institute Building 18th of January 1907 J.J. Nesteley wrote a testament, which established the building of gymnasia (high school) for women. 1st of August 1912 City Gymnasia for women named after J.J. Nesteley started working on Moskovskaya str. in Katerinoslav. Today the building is considered to be the "monument of architecture" and owned by the Institute of Nature Management Problems and Ecology of NAS of Ukraine The architect of the building - D.S. Memorial plate to honor J.J. Nesteley. 1st of August 2006 the memorial plate to honor J.J. Nesteley (who donated funds for building creation) was opened on the wall of the Institute building at the presence of the city government and community.
