Set up in 1957.
Its basic research lines are:
- innovative development and competitiveness of regions and bisinesses;
- mergers and takeovers in the economy;
- economic problems of developing mechanical-engineering industry;
- development of old industrial regions;
- territorial&production and cluster structure of regional economy.
Principal achievements and developments:
- a strategy for socio-economic development of Kharkiv oblast till 2011;
- a program to improve the quality of life of Kharkiv region inhabitants for the period till 2015;
- a program of R&D and innovative development of the region for the period till 2015;
- a regional program to develop the export potential of Kharkiv oblast in 2006-2007;
- a collaboration agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and Kharkiv oblast state administration.
In 2008 the Center has carried out research in such priority areas:
- strategies of developing hi-tech branches of the industrial complex of Ukraine under the target integrated program ‘Ukraine – XXI century: strategic priorities in socio-economic development for 2007-2011’;
- the mechanism of forming and providing state support to regional research&production cluster systems in the conditions of globalization;
- forming the mechanism for the development of competitive integrated business structures in the conditions of globalization;
- the status of prognosticating the development of Ukrainian hi-tech industries: space, aviation, power engineering, biotechnologies;
- modeling of development scenarios for technological styles, basic technologies and breakthrough innovations; their effect on the quality of human life in Ukraine.
