Founded on July 18, 1977.
Institute’s research activities are aimed at:
- investigations of properties vs structure relations in supramolecular compounds and development of directional synthesis of biologically active substances (neurotropic, immunotropic, antiviral, antiaggregatory), reagents, metallocomplex catalysts, sensors etc.;
- studying synthesis, structure, properties and analysis of inorganic and coordination compounds of rare-earth elements to obtain new functional materials for optoelectronics and biomedical diagnostics.
Patterns in structure-properties relationships and the mode of action of organic compounds with neurotropic, immunotropic, antiviral, immunomodulatory and antiaggregation properties have been discovered.
A number of pharmacological preparations have been developed and introduced to medical practice: the first original Ukrainian tranquilizer ‘Phenazepam’; a highly efficient selective anxiolytic ‘Gidazepam’; the world-first peroral inducer of endogenous interferon ‘Amixin’ with a wide range of antiviral activities; the first Ukrainian diagnostic agent for magnetic-resonance tomography ‘Lantavist’.
New general approaches to the synthesis of macrocyclic compounds have been developed. Their structure-complexability relationships have been studied in detail.
A concept has been advanced concerning the role of structural factors in homo- and heterogenic catalysis of redox-processes by polynuclear complexes of 3D metals with the involvement of ‘small’ molecules (O2, H2O, CO, H2). Affordable and efficient catalysts have been developed for oxide processing of higher hydrocarbons and petroleum residues to yield bitumen materials, mastics and road emulsions.
Novel approaches to and methods for immobilization of medicinal enzyme agents have been developed.
Theoretical methods for determining ‘functional properties vs molecular structure’ relations, alongside with theoretical methods to calculate and predic thermodynamical properties of gases and liquids have been worked out.
Theoretical and methodological backgrounds for flame photometry, ‘cold evaporation’, spectrophotometric, luminescent and atomic-emission methods for identifying rare elements (lanthanides, germanium, zirconium, tantalum etc.) have been developed.
Production of standard samples of contents for metrological analysis of the environment has been launched.
Patterns have been found in the dependence of optical properties on electronic structure. Luminophores and materials for ionizing-radiation detectors and interference coatings for optics and optical electronics have been produced on their basis.
